Heim Data, Inc. Introduces New Signal Interface Modules

Heim Data, Inc., a leading supplier of data acquisition equipment, is adding modules for the acquisition of Video and Ethernet data to its range of signal interfaces. These plug-in modules enhance Heim Data' high-performance instrumentation and flight test recorders by allowing users complete freedom to configure data acquisition mainframes with a wide variety of sensor interfacing. They are available for operation in systems producing both Heim DATaRec-3 and IRIG-106 Chapter 10 data format, and provide economical multi-mission operation and future enhancement capability.

These new modules are a comprehensive solution for a wide variety of data acquisition missions. Together with existing interfaces for analog, serial digital, parallel digital and avionics busses, they provide accurate and reliable solutions for acquiring data from evolving sensor sources. The Video modules can record and replay data from up to four NTSC/PAL/SECAM sources together with dual audio channels. MPEG-2 digitization and compression employ selectable maximum data rates offering the user a wide choice of data bandwidth and picture quality. Each Ethernet module can record and replay from up to two 10/100Base-T communications links, transparently capturing all message packets, including collision fragments, for later analysis. Data are recorded with 5 micro-second time accuracy and include address, speed and error information.

Each interface is self-contained within rugged aluminum housing with robust connectors and securing screws. The modules may be deployed in any quantity or combination. The circuitry is automatically calibrated as necessary and includes built in self-checking for reporting channel status and activity to the system. All configurations and settings are software programmable through the mainframe's own manual controls or through serial or Ethernet remote interfaces. The available FTrans remote control and data transfer application provides a convenient user interface to the recorders and data.

These new modules significantly enhance the users' ability to accurately correlate visual and communications events with telemetry and other sensor measurements during test missions. All recording modules are synchronized to a single high-resolution time source that ensures time stamping of recorded data is compensated for circuit latencies irrespective of channel type and bandwidth. The time source can be synchronized to external references, such as GPS, for reliable linkage to range time. A similar process is applied in replay modules so perfect time correlation is maintained in both downloaded digital sample data and in real time analog reconstruction of the original signals.
