Heim Data INTRODUCES SELF CONTAINED CARTRIDGES FOR RECORDING MEDIA
Removable Media Capability for Hard Drives and Solid State Drives. IRIG106 Chapter 10 Compliant Versions Available

Heim Data, Inc., a leading supplier of data acquisition equipment, introduces record media contained in removable cartridges for D Series airborne recorders. The media cartridges provide enhanced flexibility to choose the most appropriate media for any given mission with due regard to environment, data capacity, data rate and budget requirements.

Cartridges are available with hard disk drives (up to 256 GB capacity), solid state drives (up to 144 GB capacity) and tape drives (AIT-2 and AIT-3). A cartridge with a PC Flash Memory Card slot is also available. These cartridges are fully interchangeable within a single or across multiple recorders, allowing the user to easily select the low cost of tape, the high speed and capacity of hard disk, or the ultra reliability and environmental performance of solid state at any time in the life of a recorder.

Each cartridge is comprised of a rugged housing with extraction handles, security pins or latches to lock the cartridge in the host recorder, and a SCSI interface to the host recorder system. The SCSI interface uses high quality connector and guidance technology to ensure reliable and robust connection over the life of the cartridge. The host recorder automatically recognizes the media type when any cartridge is inserted and is ready to record in seconds without operator intervention. The simple plug-in operation of the cartridges ensures a rapid and consistent methodology for loading and unloading all media types for extended missions, data download and maintenance.

With up to 256 Mbit/s total system data rate, media cartridges are available for D200, D5000 and D7000 Series recorders. They can replay data in the host recorder or they can be unplugged and transported to a ground station for data replay and analysis. The Heim GSR Series of ground station recorder/reproducers has versions with compatible receivers for the media cartridges, allowing real time reconstruction of the recorded airborne data direct from the cartridge. For rapid digital download of data direct to analysis computers and off line copying, the Heim W Series provides a SCSI docking station for the cartridges.

The IRIG106 standard now specifies interchange requirements for cartridge media in Chapter 10. Heim solid state and hard drive media cartridges have available local intelligence and dual IEEE-1394b ports to provide compliant file management, data download, secure erasure, status and control. There is also a Gigabit Ethernet port to push/pull data directly to and from networks.

This highly flexible solution to the use of multiple media types in data acquisition tasks also allows Heim to offer future advances in media technology easily and cost effectively to owners of current recorder systems. About Heim Data
